Outlook Web Access (OWA)

Outlook Web Access (OWA)

Outlook Web Access is a key feature of Hosted Exchange. Available via any web browser wherever you are in the world, OWA gives you full control over your email, address book, contacts and public folders. An improved user interface (UI) closely matches Outlook 2003 in functionality and design providing much improved ease of use.

Some of the new features of OWA

• Meeting requests can be forwarded
• Desktop Alert and Notification Area icon for new mail
• Richer support for icons in Mail view
• Control when messages are marked as read in Preview Panel
• Public folders now display in their own window
• Global Address Lists within an email message/meeting request
• Message sensitivity settings on Information Bar
• Meeting invitees can set their preferred reminder time
• Support for common rules
• Personal Tasks
• Message signatures
• Saved searches

In addition to these improvements, OWA now has a much faster connection speed. Mailbox content is compressed on the Exchange server before being sent to the Outlook 2003 client. Outlook 2003 downloads all items from the server based mailbox and keeps them synchronized in a cache on the local client computer. After a full copy of the mailbox is downloaded, the client performs most e-mail related tasks from the local computer.

Communication with the server is only required during offline folder synchronization, when downloading new items to the client computer, when uploading added or changed items to the server, or when sending messages.
